HISTORY

What Was
Curry High School Then?

In October 1992, in an Administrative Board meeting of the Pili Pastoral Council, one of the ideas brought about by Most Rev. Msgr. Noriel A. Priela—parish priest of St. Raphael de Archangel—is the envision of Curry as a parish. He thought that a parish needed a high school, so he asked the education committee chairman of the parish, Mrs. Violeta V. Saulon—the cluster principal of Pili District—about the possibility of organizing a high school in barangay Curry, Pili, Camarines Sur. She told her that sometimes in 1985, there were existing private high schools in Curry. First, the one organized by the late ex-governor Jove Velazde and another one by the President of Naga College Foundation, Dr. Melchor T. Villanueva. After gathering the data from the enrollment form (F-3) of the district, it was found out that possible enrollment for first year could come from two sections of grade six in Curry Elementary School; one from Del Rosario Elementary School; one from Sto. Niño and another from Bagong Sirang Elementary School. With this data, Msgr. Priela approached the Assistant Schools Division Superintendent of Camarines Sur. Dr. Vita Q. Avenido about the possibility of organizing a high school in the same barangay, Dr. Avenido gave her approval provided that basic requirements be complied with immediately after the positive response of DECS, Camarines Sur Most Rev. Msgr. Noriel A. Priola took it upon himself to look for a school site. It did not take long to obtain the consent of the matriarch of the Altamarino clan, retired school teacher and wife of the late provincial treasurer, Mr. Antonio Altamarino, Sr. Curry High School formally started its operation in 1993 when Mrs. Saulon, the cluster principal of Pili District, had informed the head teacher in the elementary, Mrs. Flora Sabordo, about the development of the request to establish a school in Curry. The elementary head teacher, prior to the start of the school year, initiated passing a joint resolution between the barangay council of Curry and the parents of the elementary pupils requesting the local government of Pill to endorse the request of the latter to establish a public high school in barangay Curry.

The petition of the people in Curry and its adjoining barangays experienced challenges, criticism, and even much tears and sweat before it was finally endorsed to the Schools Division Superintendent of Camarines Sur through resolution number 115 series 1993 of the Sangguniang Bayan of Pili requesting the DECS, Camarines Sur to grant the petition of the parents in the same barangay to push through the project. The elementary school head organized the first-year class and housed it temporarily at the barangay chapel. This is how Curry High School started its operation.

About Us

We are a group of ten student-teacher interns from the College of Development Education - Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CDE-CBSUA). We call our group, Team Isarog, as a symbol of the community we were assigned to; and as a symbol of the tenacity of a mountain that we showcased during our internship journey. For 2 months, from February 5 to April 4, we had the opportunity to complete our internship journey at Altamarino-Clasio High School (ACHS) in Curry, Pili, Camarines Sur.

Through our teaching internship, we had many learning experiences as we engaged in meaningful classroom experiences, crafting lesson plans, delivery of instruction, and making connections with the entire ACHS community, from our peers to the students, cooperating teachers, the school head, and the school's faculty and staff. This e-portfolio highlights our journey as student teachers - showcasing our achievements, outputs, our school, our reflections, and our growth as we prepare to become educators with confidence, competence, commitment, and compassion.
